Saving Biodiversity: A status report on state laws, policies and programs was produced in 1996 by the Center for Wildlife Law at the University of New Mexico and The Defenders of Wildlife with funding from The Geraldine R. Dodge Foudation.

There are 10 major categories of state laws and programs surveyed: biodiversity policy; status of biodiversity science; endangered species; state agency management for biodiversity; impact assessment; habitat acquisition; private land conservation; exotic species; animal damage control programs; and additional legal protections for biodiversity.
